I’m Denis (pronounced deh-NEE), a dynamically disabled and multiply-neurodivergent design leader with over two decades of experience shaping how people interact with digital products.

My passion lies in understanding people—whether through user research or the curiosity that fuels my personal life. I thrive on uncovering insights, asking the right questions, and fostering empathy to create products and experiences that truly resonate.

Over the years, I’ve honed my craft as a design leader while embracing an advocacy role, ensuring disability inclusion, accessibility, and awareness of neurodiversity stay front and centre in everything I do. My approach is deeply informed by research, both in my professional practice and in my everyday curiosity about the world.

Outside of work, I’m a passionate knitter, birder, and rock climber who finds joy in nature, creativity, and movement. These hobbies often double as research in their own way—whether I’m studying birds, learning new knitting techniques, or exploring the mental and physical challenges of climbing.

I’m also the proud father of two cats, who seem to think they’re integral members of my team—offering their unique brand of “assistance” during meetings, strategically demanding attention at the busiest moments, and ensuring I never take myself too seriously.

A PEOPLE-CENTERED PHILOSOPHY

Nurturing Environments Where Everyone Thrives

My work lives at the intersection of technology and humanism. Being autistic has given me a deep respect for diverse ways of thinking and perceiving the world. This perspective pushes me to create products and experiences that are truly accessible—not just functionally, but also emotionally and cognitively.

I believe design is never just about the pixels; it’s about people. By weaving together each designer’s unique strengths and aligning them with broader organizational objectives, I build teams that deliver meaningful outcomes.

My leadership style is collaborative, iterative and supportive, reflecting what I’ve learned from other people managers throughout my career. I’m convinced that when each person on a team feels safe, understood, and empowered, that’s when the most innovative work happens.

CHAMPIONING INCLUSIVITY & EMPATHY

Why I do What I do

Growing up with unique perceptual and cognitive differences, I became determined to make technology serve everyone equally. Design is my way of bending technology to human needs, not the other way around. It’s also how I unlock the potential of each team member, empowering them to grow in their craft and feel genuinely proud of the impact they’re making.

As a Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC), I view accessibility not just as a responsibility but as a catalyst for creativity and innovation. My lived experience drives me to lead with empathy, adaptability, and resilience—empowering teams to challenge assumptions and create meaningful change.

I’m convinced that the future of digital experiences hinges on inclusivity, empathy, and thoughtful collaboration. As I continue to explore emerging technologies—I remain grounded in a commitment to create products that serve not just a user story, but real, diverse human lives.

For me, that’s the essence of good design.
